Sanctuary Cove is a gated community and town in the suburb of Hope Island on Queensland's Gold Coast. It covers 474 hectares and was built around four man-made harbours just south of the Coomera River's mouth.
Sanctuary Cove is Australia's second such development (after St Hubert's Island), and is famous for its influence on planning legislation.
Mike Gore developed the property, which first opened in 1986. The resort was purchased in 1989 by EIE International Corporation, a Japanese real estate investment firm, with help from the Japan Long Term Credit Bank. Following the collapse of the Japanese economy in 1992, EIE, along with the Sanctuary Cove development business, went into receivership (Discovery Bay Developments Pty Ltd). Mulpha Australia Limited bought the property in 2002.
Sanctuary Cove is a resort with a maze of private waterways, lush parkland, and championship golf courses that are completely integrated as a tourism and residential destination. Tourists can spend time cruising the rivers, dropping in a crab pot, stopping off at numerous isolated islands, and finally going up at the Marina for a gourmet meal.
The luxurious hotel at Sanctuary Cove is managed by InterContinental. Previously, the resort was known as the Hyatt Regency Sanctuary Cove and was managed by Hyatt.
